American Association of Blood Banks This organization counts among its members donor centers, transfusion services, and blood bankers in the United States as well as many blood bankers around the world. Well worth a visit. See also AABB's journal, Transfusion, given at the end of this list.
America's Blood Centers A network of 72 community blood centers in the U.S. These centers collect more than 1/2 of the blood in the United States.
American Red Cross Donor Centers This is the web page of the American Red Cross.
American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) The members of this organization are interested in clinical laboratory science practice, education and management including blood banking.
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) A leading resource for education and publishing in pathology and laboratory medicine, including blood banking.
California Blood Bank Society The web site of the California Blood Bank Society, webmaster Ira Shulman, MD. A very good web site with much up-to-the-minute information on transfusion medicine.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) A valuable resource for information on travelers health, including those with special needs such as disabilities, pregnancy, breast-feeding, and HIV.
College of American Pathologists (CAP) The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is a medical society serving more than 15,000 physician members and the laboratory community, including transfusion services.
FDA-CBER Promulgates CFRs, Guidances, Rules, and Letters to the blood banking industry
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is a Federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Programs for which CMS is responsible include Medicare, Medicaid, State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), HIPAA, and CLIA. Formerly called HCFA
International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) The International Society of Blood Transfusion
ISBT 128 ISBT 128 provides such an international standard. It specifies a donation numbering system that ensures globally unique identification.
JCAHO The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations
