fall meeting of the Tennessee Association of Blood Banks (TABB) was
held on Friday, October 26, 2007 in the auditorium of the American
Red Cross, Nashville, Tennessee. There were 56 attendees. The

Some Program Highlights
Teri Youngblood, Coordinator
of Education for TABB, was the program moderator and opened the
meeting introducing the first speaker.
Christopher Mixon, M.D.,
the medical director of the Baptist Hospital Blood Bank, was the
first speaker who gave a Genetics Primer for Blood Bankers.
Claire Meena-Leist, M.D. used the
title "Transfusion Related Case Studies Including TRALI and
Chagas Disease" but showed a great case of transfusion transmitted
babesiosis. Click

Elizabeth Culler, M.D. was invited
to give a special presentation on use of 16 year old blood donors
in Tennessee. She will head a steering committee to look into the
desirablity of using 16 year old donors in Tennessee. Click

Nancy Cornwell's subject
was "Pooled, WB-derived Platelets: Update."
Patti Schifano gave a
stirring presentation with instructions as to how to write a validation
plan.
Jackie Stanley, LPN,
Six Sigma Black Belt, ARC concluded the program with a talk entitled,
"Introduction to Problem Solving." Click
